Abstract

This study aims to develop a Reconciliatory Pastoral Model through the Sacrament of Reconciliation for Catholic adolescents in rural areas in responding to moral anxiety in the digital era. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research explores adolescents' lived experiences in understanding and practicing the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The study was conducted at St. Joseph Freinademetz Outstation, St. Wilhelmus Lodoblolong Parish, Diocese of Larantuka, involving twelve purposively selected participants consisting of ten Catholic adolescents, one catechist, and one parish priest. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that adolescents' moral anxiety is shaped by the interaction of personal experiences, limited family role modeling, inadequate pastoral accompaniment, and digital culture, leading many adolescents to avoid the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Based on a phenomenological synthesis, this study proposes a Reconciliatory Pastoral Model integrating contextual catechesis, personal accompaniment, the family as Ecclesia Domestica, the empowerment of Catholic youth communities, and the habituation of the Sacrament of Reconciliation to foster integral reconciliation and Christian character formation among rural Catholic adolescents.
