Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact, challenges, and benefits of pastoral care services at Dian Harapan Hospital in Waena, Jayapura. The method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects in this study were 7 informants. Data collection techniques used interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that from various activities carried out by pastoral care staff at Dian Harapan Hospital in Waena Jayapura, there were impacts experienced by patients. When patients were visited, patients felt very happy and felt cared for. In addition, patients' longing for prayer was fulfilled and they felt strengthened in their faith, believing that they would recover when prayed for by pastoral care staff. Challenges faced by pastoral care staff while providing services to patient at Dian Harapan Hospital include the rejection of pastoral care staff by patients' families for prayers from patients of other faiths. However, this rejection was not only from patients of other faiths but also from Catholic patients. The benefits obtained by patients from the services of pastoral care staff include patients experiencing progress in the treatment process. The family felt strengthened by being comforted and prayed for by the pastoral care staff at Dian Harapan Hospital.
