About the Journal
Kariwari is the traditional house of the Tobati tribe (which etymologically means “true man of the sun”) who live on the coast of Youtefa Bay, Jayapura. The structure of the Kariwari is a three-tiered octagonal pyramid. The roof is made of sago leaves. The entire building rests on one main pole in the center. The inside of the Kariwari consists of one large room without a partition. Kariwari functions as a place for traditional feasts, boy initiation rites, the transmission of the meaning and values of the Tobati tribe's life, and as a place to store traditional heirlooms.
Kariwari Journal is a journal published by the Catechetical Pastoral College of St. John the Apostle Jayapura. This journal discusses pastoral issues of the Church including: Education, Catechesis, Theology, Religious Phenomenology, Liturgy, and other people's problems. This journal is published 2 (two) times a year in January and July.
